A Jewish community existed in Poddobryanka at the beginning of the 19th century. In 1926 part of the town became part of Belorussian Soviet Republic while, under name of Dobrianka, another part of the same town became part of Ukrainian Republic. In December 1926 the 1,127 Jews in Poddobryanka comprised 92.5 percent of the total town's population. A Yiddish elementary school, which in 1928 had about 100 students, operated in the town. Poddobryanka was occupied by German troops at the end of August 1941. Many Jews succeeded in escaping to the Soviet interior. The 200 who remained were killed in several German murder operations. Poddobryanka was liberated by the Red Army at the end of September 1943.
