Belorussia (USSR)
Jews began living in Kholmech at the end of the 17th century. In 1897 the town's population included 1,380 Jews, who comprised 59.6 percent of the total population. In 1910 a private Jewish school for boys and one for girls were opened. In August 1941 Kholmech was occupied by the Germans. All Jews from the village who did not flee in time were murdered. Kholmich was liberated by the Red Army on November 12, 1943.
