Peretsfeld
Russia (USSR)
Peretsfeld was a Jewish agricultural settlement established in the 1920s in the framework of the Soviet project of Jewish colonization of Crimea. It was named after the prominent Yiddish writer Yitskhok Leybush Peretz. In January 1932 about 470 Jews who had arrived from towns in the former Pale of Settlement lived here. There was a four-year Yiddish school in the village. Most of the Jewish inhabitants of Peretsfeld succeeded in fleeing before the arrival of the German forces. About 100 Jews who remained were murdered outside the village during the night of November 14/15, 1941. Peretsfeld was liberated by the Red Army in April 1944. In 1945 the village was renamed Zimino.
