Shaumyan was a kolkhoz established in the late 1930s by Mountain Jews.In 1942, according to a German report, there were 114 Jews in Shaumyan. The existence of Shaumyan's Jews became known to the Germans from information provided by a local non-Jew. On March 1, 1942 15 men from Shaumyan were deported to Yevpatoria and shot there. The remaining Jewish inhabitants of Shaumyan were murdered close to the village three days later.
