In 1932 about 200 Jewish families lived in Friling. Most Jews left before the arrival of German troops in October 1941. In the winter of 1941/1942 the few remaining Jews were murdered near the village or at wells near the county center of Fraydorf and in the village of Naybrod (according to different sources).
Friling was liberated by the Red Army on April 13, 1944. After the war it was renamed Nikolayevka. The village was abandoned several decades later.
