Kheyrus
Russia (USSR)
Kheyrus ("freedom," as pronounced in Ashkenazi Hebrew) was a Jewish agricultural settlement established in the mid 1920s. In the late 1920s or 1930s a Jewish kolkhoz named after Dimitrov was established there. This kolkhoz was among the most prosperous in the area, having both a milk factory and a windmill. Many Jews managed to leave before the arrival of German troops. In January 1942 36 Jews of Kheyrus who had remained in the village were taken first to the county center Ichki and then to Dzhankoy, where they were murdered. After the war the name of the locality was changed to Dmitrovka.
