Golovchin
Belorussia (USSR)
In the mid-18th century the Jewish population of Golovchin totalled 280 people. In 1923 378 Jews lived in Golovchin, comprising 27.5 percent of the total population. In the 1930s many Jews from Golovchin were members of a local kolkhoz; others were craftsmen, mainly in crafts cooperatives. The town had a Yiddish primary school. On July 5, 1941 the Germans occupied Golovchin. Some of the town's Jews were killed in September 1941 in the vicinity of Golovchin; others were taken to the ghetto in Belynichi and killed there, together with the Jews of that town. Children of mixed marriages were also killed. Golovchin was liberated by the Red Army at the end of June 1944.
