Dribin

Community
Dribin
Belorussia (USSR)
The first reference to a Jewish community in Dribin relates to the second quarter of the 18th century; by the end of the century more than 250 Jews lived in the town. Under the Soviets a Yiddish elementary school operated until it was liquidated in mid-1938. In January 1939 563 Jews, comprising 18 percent of the total population, lived in the town. Dribin was occupied by the Germans on July 12, 1941 and in the fall of the same year all the Jews were killed in one mass murder operation. The Red Army liberated the town on October 2, 1943.
