Transport V/8 departed from Dresden on 29 March 1943 and arrived in Theresienstadt later the same day. There were 32 people on this transport, including at least twelve Jews from the city of Halle, seven from the city of Chemnitz, four from Leipzig and others from smaller towns in the area such as Plauen. Only one woman of this transport came from Dresden. Prior to the deportation the majority had been forced to live in houses designated for Jews only, the “Judenhäuser”. The deportees were between 12 and 84 years old.

This transport was announced in the Daily Orders issued by the Jewish leadership on September 22, 1942, where it was claimed that the deportees will be sent to another ghetto. Later that day, each inmate scheduled for transport was ordered to pack his or her belongings, and report to the quarantine site (“Schleuse”) at the courtyard of the Aussig Barracks. During quarantine, the Jewish leadership was able to intermittently arrange for provisions and supplies.

On November 27 all deportees were taken from the assembly camp to Grunewald station. Those unable to walk were taken there by truck while the others were made to walk about seven kilometres across the city. At the station third-class passenger cars ordered by the Gestapo and supplied by the Reichsbahn awaited them and the deportees were ordered to board the train which was designated Da 31. This transport departed on the same day.
