Leone BEAU
Beau, Leone Pérard, Jean Pérard, Georgette Following the death of her husband, Ezeni Eugenie (née Nachmias) Scialom emigrated from Salonika to Paris along with her two children, Ino (b. 1914) and Liliane (b. 1920). They settled in the 17th arrondissement, in Square du Rhone 4, and in 1933 received French citizenship. At the onset of war, Ino joined the OCM ("Organisation civile et militaire") resistance, where he met Léone (Léo) Beau, the half-sister of a fellow resistance fighter. Beau recruited Ino’s sister Liliane into the organization as well. Despite the suspicions that this aroused with local authorities, Beau rented several apartments as part of her covert resistance activities, and all three members of the Scialom family intermittently hid there. In 1942, as the situation in Paris grew yet more dangerous, Beau provided Liliane with doctored identity papers in which her name appeared as “Liliane Pérard.” She escorted Liliane by train to the home of her elderly stepparents, who lived in Saint-Silvain-Bas-le-Roc, in the Gouby district. Jean and Georgette (née Cambe) Pérard treated Liliane like family, introducing her as their asthmatic niece (Liliane was indeed asthmatic) who required fresh air. The Pérards put themselves at great risk in hiding Liliane, particularly because her Jewish identity became known to a man in the village who showed a romantic interest in her. In January 1945, Ino Scialom married Léo Beau. Eugenie passed away in 1981 and was buried alongside her daughter’s rescuers, the Pérards. On January 3, 2012, Léone Beau and Jean and Georgette Pérard were recognized by Yad Vashem as Righteous Among the Nations.
