Oudejans Wilhelmus & Gijsbertha (Raedt van de); Son: Jacobus ; Daughter-In-Law: Adriana (Jong de)

Righteous
Oudejans, Wilhelmus Petrus Oudejans-van de Raedt, Gijsbertha Maria Oudejans, Jacobus Oudejans-de Jong, Adriana Wilhelmus and Gijsbertha Oudejans, both in their fifties, lived with their eldest son Jacobus, his wife Adriana and their three young children, on a large prosperous farm in the village of Spierdijk (prov. North-Holland). The family was devout Roman Catholic. In the summer of 1942, with the onset of the deportations of the Jews, they were asked by Jan, another son and priest, whether they would be willing to hide a young Jewish woman whom he knew from his student days in Leiden. They answered positively, and so later that summer 22-year-old Albertine (Tini) Sanders (later, Tamar Amram) arrived. Originally from Rotterdam, her family had moved to The Hague after their home in Rotterdam had been bombed. Tini arrived together with her younger brother Jaap, twelve years old, who like herself, could no longer stay at an earlier hiding address in Leiden. Tini had managed to find a hiding address for her parents with the Andriessen* family in The Hague. The Oudejans warmly welcomed Tini and Jaap Sanders. They got their own room in the home of Wilhelmus and Gijsbertha Oudejans. Tini stayed inside at all times; Jaap was allowed to play with the Oudejans children on the farm grounds from time to time. No one was to know about their presence on the farm. When visitors came, Tini and Jaap would go into their room, so as not to be seen or heard. Tini home-schooled her little brother as far as possible. A special hiding area was installed, in case of possible house searches. In early 1945, the Oudejans were warned of betrayal. Immediately, Tini and Jaap were moved to a hayloft at the edge of the farm, where they hid until the liberation in May 1945. Twice a day, Wilhelmus Oudejans brought them water and food (including special sweets on Sundays) and changed the pail they used for their needs. In spite of these restrictive circumstances, the relations between theTini and Jaap Sanders and all the members of the Oudejans family were good during the two and a half years they were in hiding with them. Contact between the Sanders and the Oudejans family continued, also after the former immigrated to Israel. On September 23, 2001, Yad Vashem recognized Wilhelmus Petrus Oudejans and Gijsbertha Maria Oudejans-van de Raedt, their son Jacobus Oudejans and his wife Adriana Oudejans-de Jong, as Righteous Among the Nations.
