Siemsen Gertie

Righteous
Siemsen, Gertie Dr. Gertie Siemsen, a close co-worker of Harald Poelchau*, the pastor of the Berlin-Tegel prison, provided both the Jewish musician Konrad Latte, as well as his parents with crucial assistance to help them survive in Berlin. Latte has reported that “She provided us – and not just us – with food ration cards, money, places where we could spend the night, jobs and far more. Time and time again she let me spend the night in her apartment.” After Latte’s parents were deported to their death in Auschwitz with the 44th East Transport on October 14th 1943, Siemsen continued to support Konrad Latte, alias Konrad Bauer, providing him with forged documents. On July 23, 2002, Yad Vashem recognized Gertie Siemsen as a Righteous Among the Nations.
