Sanevich, Anna Sanevich, Ivan Sanevich, Tatyana Sanevich, Petro Sanevich, Darya Anna Sanevich, her husband Ivan, and their children, Tatyana, Petro, Darya, and Stefa lived in the village of Yurovka, district of Zhitomir (today Yurivka, Zhytomyr District), where they owned a small farm. On November 1, 1941, Sanevich went out to the field near the river and noticed two children hiding among the bushes. They were the siblings, Buzya (later Anna) and Dmitriy Shmaiger, who had escaped from Lyubar during an Aktion. When Sanevich approached them, she realized they were Jewish; she noticed that they looked as though they had not eaten for some time, and their clothes were lice-ridden. She invited them back to her home and prepared a hiding place for them above the Russian stove. Sanevich’s family supported her rescue efforts and for three months they took care of their wards and no one in the village knew of their presence. Tatyana and Darya Sanevich, who were close in age to the Jewish siblings, spent their free time with them and Petro taught 13-year-old Dmitriy some farming techniques. In February 1942, Ivan Sanevich managed to obtain an ID in a Ukrainian name for Buzya as well as travel documents. The following day, the Jewish brother and sister left the Saneviches’ home and moved to an area where no one knew them. The Shmaigers worked in a remote village until 1943, when Buzya was ordered to go to work in Germany while Dmitriy stayed in the home of strangers. After the liberation, in 1945, the Shmaiger siblings were reunited and they settled in Lyubar before moving to western Ukraine. In the 1990s, they moved with their children and grandchildren to Israel, and through all this time they never lost contact with the Sanevich family. On February 28, 1993, Yad Vashem recognized Ivan and Anna Sanevich as Righteous Among the Nations. On July 19, 1994, Yad Vashem recognized Tatyana Sanevich, Petro Sanevich, and Darya Sanevich, as Righteous Among the Nations.
