File 5000 Kryńska, Aniela Kryński, Jan Lubowicka-Kryńska, Ryta (Józefa) Kryński, Stanisław In October 1942, Wolf (Wolfe; Victor) Farber (Faber) knocked at the door of Aniela and Jan Kryński’s home, in the village of Bystre in Bócki county, in Białystok district. Breathing with difficulty, his clothes soaked with mud and water, Farber told the farmers that he was a Jew who had fled from the Drohiczyn ghetto, on the Bug river. The Jewish refugee, who did not dare ask for shelter, begged the Kryńskis to allow him to dry his clothes and to drink some water. Without asking for anything in return, the Kryńskis, with the consent of their children Ryta and Stanisław, decided to shelter Farber in one of their farm buildings. He remained there under the care of the four Kryńskis, who provided him with food and all his needs, purely for humanitarian reasons. Undaunted by the blackmail attempts of antisemitic gangs that were terrorizing the area, or by the sporadic searches the Gestapo conducted of their farm, the Kryńskis continued to shelter and care for the Jewish refugee. Farber remained in his hiding place until July 1944, when the region was liberated by the Red Army. After the war, he immigrated to the United States and remained in touch with the family that had saved his life. After the war, the Kryński family was harassed by gangs who kept coming to the farm, demanding the gold supposedly left there by the Jews who had hidden in their home during the occupation. Alarmed by these threats, the Kryńskis were forced to leave their home and move to an area within Poland’s new borders. On August 21, 1991, Yad Vashem recognized Aniela Kryńska, her husband Jan Kryński, their daughter Ryta Lubowicka (neé: Kryńska), and their son Stanisław Kryński as Righteous Among the Nations.
