Adam Sajdak and his brother, Tadeusz, lived with their elderly father, Władysław, on the outskirts of Zloczow, in Eastern Galicia, where they were known as honest and trustworthy people. Since their house was situated near the local train station, Sajdak and his sons witnessed the transport of Jews to the death camps. A few Jews who managed to escape during the liquidation found temporary shelter with the Sajdaks, who directed them to the partisans in the nearby forests. In the summer of 1944, Maurycy Altslock reached the Sajdaks’ home, exhausted and wounded by gunfire, with German policemen hard in pursuit. Adam Sajdak immediately hid him in the attic. When the Germans turned up, Władysław, his elderly father, denied having seen any Jews in the area. After the Sajdaks nursed Altslock back to health, they smuggled him to an area near the front, where he remained until he was liberated by the Red Army. In helping Jews, the Sajdaks were motivated by humanitarian considerations and their religious faith, and never expected anything in return. After the war, Altslock moved to Australia.
On October 14, 1985, Yad Vashem recognized Władysław Sajdak, and his sons, Adam and Tadeusz, as Righteous Among the Nations.
