Pudło Stanisław & Aleksandra ; Son: Władysław ; Daughter: Pietrenkowa Janina

Righteous
Pudło, Stanisław Pudło, Akeksandra Pudło, Władysław Pietrenko-Pudło, Janina During the occupation, Stanisław and Aleksandra Pudło and their children Władysław and Janina lived in an apartment building in the city of Borysław, in Eastern Galicia. Stanisław Pudło was a foreman at an oil processing plant in the city and had ties with many local Jews. During the liquidation Aktionen against the Borysław Jews, he was approached by seven local Jews who asked him to hide them in his home. They were Mr. and Mrs. Szeps, brother and sister Michał and Rózia Szuster, Gdalia Operman and Hanka Kleinberg and her five-year-old daughter Nina. The seven Jewish fugitives arrived separately at Pudło’s home, where he hid them in the attic and cellar, with some remaining with the Pudło family for varying periods. Hiding seven people in an old apartment without indoor plumbing involved great difficulty and caused serious social problems. Aside from preserving hygienic conditions, the Pudło family had to provide the fugitives with food, and this awakened suspicion among the neighbors. All the members of the Pudło family were involved in caring for the Jews hiding in their home, and despite the danger to their lives, they kept the hiding place clean and cared for all the fugitives’ needs. Of the seven Jews that found asylum in the Pudło home, six were saved. Michał Szuster, who left the hiding place to visit the ghetto, did not return and perished. Everything the Pudło family did to save the Jews was motivated by humane principles, without asking for or receiving anything in return. After the war, the survivors left the city, with some immigrating to Israel and others to the United States. The Pudło family moved to an area within the new Polish borders. On January 28, 1986, Yad Vashem recognized Aleksandra Pudło, her husband Stanisław Pudło and their children Władysław Pudło and Janina Pietrenko (née Pudło) as Righteous Among the Nations. File 3345
