Kułyk Władysław & Bartoszewska Julia (Stasiukiewicz)

Righteous
Kułyk Władysław Kułyk-Bartoszewska Julia When the Dolina ghetto, in the Stanisławów district, was liquidated in July 1942, some survivors found a hiding place in the dense forests that surrounded the town. About 15 of them fled from place to place pursued by Germans and local nationalists until, one day, they came across Władysław Kułyk, who, out of patriotic motives, decided to help them. Kułyk provided the fugitives with food and clothes, and kept them informed of developments in the area. Julia, Władysław’s wife, prepared food for the refugees, and took an active part in the rescue operation In time, the Germans discovered their hiding place, and chased after them, killing all the refugees except Mrris Klein, who managed to escape. The Germans also arrested Kułyk and accused him, together with five other farmers, of helping Jews. All were hanged in the marketplace of Dolina. After the war, Klein emigrated to the United States. Julia (later Bartoszewska), who also escaped the massacre, moved to an area within the new Polish borders. On May 16, 1989, Yad Vashem recognized Władysław Kułyk, his wife, Julia Bartoszewska (Kułyk by her first marriage), as Righteous Among the Nations. File 4235
