Bobatow, Aleksander Bobatow, Bronisława Siegman-Bobatow, Henriette Staats-Bobatow, Irena Bobatow, Janusz In June1943, a handful of Jews who escaped from the liquidated Drohobycz ghetto in the Lwow district found shelter with Aleksander and Bronisława Bobatow. Among them were: Marek Langer, Leon Siegman, the brothers Emil and Henryk Rozen, the sisters Józefa, Regina and Daniela Josesberg, Nusia and Izak Liber, Otto and Irena Blumenblatt, Lusia Bein, Henryk Wagenberg. The Bobatows prepared an underground hiding place for the Jewish refugees and catered to all their needs, until the area was liberated in August 1944. Guided by religious faith and simple humanity, the Bobatows linked their fate to that of the Jews, without any thought of personal gain. The Bobatows’ son, Janusz, and daughters, Henriette and Irena, helped their parents look after the refugees. After the war, Leon Siegman married Henriette Bobatow, while the other refugees emigrated to the United States and Canada. From their newly adopted countries, the survivors gratefully remembered the Bobatow family, who moved to an area within the new borders of Poland, as having saved their lives, and as having offered them help in times of need. On October 21, 1987, Yad Vashem recognized Bronisława Bobatow, Aleksander Bobatow, their daughters, Henriette Siegman-Bobatow and Irena Staats-Bobatow, and their son, Janusz Bobatow, as Righteous Among the Nations.
