Zavadskaya Anisia ; Son: Zavadskiy Genrikh ; Son: Zavadski Mikhail

Righteous
Zavadskaya, Anisia Zavadskiy, Henrich Zavadskiy, Mikhail Anisia Zavadskaya and her two sons, Henrich and Mikhail, lived in Rybnitsa in the Autonomous Soviet Republic of Moldova. Lev and Polina Goldshtein and their nine-year-old son, David, were among their neighbors. In September 1941, after the occupation of the area by the Germans and the Romanians, all the Jews of the city were deported to the newly established ghetto, including the Goldshteins. The Goldshtein family was interned in the ghetto from September 1941 until February 1944. During that entire period, Anisia Zavadskaya and her sons continued to support their Jewish friends. Henrich and Mikhail would sneak into the ghetto, at great risk, to provide their friends with corn meal, beans, potatoes, onions and other necessary foodstuffs. These items were the primary source for the subsistance of the Goldshtein family. Early in 1944, when the front was drawing close to the area, the Romanian forces began retreating from Rybnitsa and German units began replacing them. In February 1944, the Germans began executing the Jews of the ghetto. At that point, some of the inhabitants of Rybnitsa helped the Jews of the ghetto to escape. At the end of February 1944, Henrich Zavadskiy snuck into the ghetto and took out the Goldshteins. The fugitives were hidden in the Zavadskiys’ home, in the cellar, in the attic and in a storeroom. Other than the Goldshteins, four members of the Ginzburg family were given shelter by the Zavadskiys. When the Red Army liberated the area in March 1944, Anisia and her sons continued to help the Goldshteins materially, and the friendly relations between the two families were maintained for many years. On October 5, 2000, Yad Vashem recognized Anisia Zavadskaya and her two sons, Henrich and Mikhail Zavadskiy, as Righteous Among the Nations.
