Stapele van Marinus & Geertruida (Manoth); Daughter: Hermine

Righteous
Stapele van, Marinus & Geertruida Jacoba (Manoth) Rooy de, Hermine (van Stapele) Forty-two of the 95 Jewish inhabitants of Steenwijk, Overijssel, survived the war thanks to the efforts of many of their neighbors. Two outstanding local Resistance leaders and LO members were the notary Marinus (Marien) van Stapele and his wife, Geertruida (Truus). Truus brought the Slager family, including their three daughters, to a hiding place. Marien, Truus, and their daughter, Hermina (later de Rooy), also sheltered various Jews for several months and a Jewish woman for three years. They secured hiding places for many others and supplied them with false papers and food coupons. The van Stapeles also rescued Dr. Jacques Adler and his pregnant wife, whose baby daughter, Yael, was born in difficult circumstances. Marien also hid Dr. Adler’s parents. On January 2, 1969, Yad Vashem recognized Marinus van Stapele, his wife, Geertruida Jacoba van Stapele-Manoth, and their daughter, Hermine de Rooy-van Stapele, as Righteous Among the Nations
