Dovgoshiya, Hanna
Dolinskiy, Vavrik
Hanna Dovgoshiya was born in the village of Nowosiolka, in theTarnopol District (today Novosilka, Ternopil’). Following the German invasion to the Soviet Union, she returned to the village to stay with her father, Vavrik Dolinskiy, because her husband was fighting on the front. Before the war, Dovgoshiya and her father were regular customers at Shlomo Trainer’s shop in Skalat, two km from Nowosiolka. On July 5, 1941, the Germans invaded the area and Dovgoshiya witnessed the slaughter of the local Jews by the Germans and their Ukrainian accomplices. One night in July 1943, Dovgoshiya and her father heard a faint knock at their door. When they opened it, Trainer was standing there. He told them that at the place where he was hiding, he was being denied food, although he had paid his hosts in advance for shelter and sustenance. Dovgoshiya and her father immediately welcomed Trainer into their home, where he stayed until the liberation on March 21, 1944. Throughout his time there, no one else knew of his presence. Furthermore, during this time, Moshe Sapir and Yakov Kleiner, both residents of Skalat, found temporary refuge with Dovgoshiya and Dolinskiy. After the war, the three Jews left Ukraine for Israel and lost contact with their rescuers until Trainer eventually managed to locate Dovgoshiya in 1997.
On May 5, 1998, Yad Vashem recognized Hanna Dovgoshiya and her father, Vavrik Dolinskiy, as Righteous Among the Nations.
