Pieter (Piet) Bijleveld worked as a courier in Nieuwlande, Drenthe. His work was fraught with danger and was entirely illegal. It consisted of accompanying those moving into hideouts, distributing letters to and from relatives on their behalf, receiving and distributing food rations, and other such tasks.
On June 9, 1983, Yad Vashem recognized Dr. Pieter Claude Bijleveld as Righteous Among the Nations.
