Tietze, Albrecht
Dr. Albrecht Tietze, the son of a well-known surgeon from Breslau/Silesia, worked as an internist at the municipal hospital in Westend in Berlin. When, on the day of the general Nazi boycott of April 1, 1933, the director of the institution assembled all the employees and demanded that all Jewish doctors leave the hospital grounds at once, Dr. Tietze expressed his solidarity with his Jewish friends and demonstratively left together with them. Dr. Tietze was known not only for his public sympathy for persecuted Jews, but was also involved with a German resistance group in Berlin during the war.
On November 3, 1970, Yad Vashem recognized Dr. Albrecht Tietze as Righteous Among the Nations.
