Oczyński, Mieczysław
From 1943 till the end of the war (in 1945), Oczyński Jan and his son Mieczysław, from the city of Sambor, located in the Lwów voivodeship; hid four Jews, members of the Göttlinger (Getlinger) family from the nearby city of Drohobycz: Dr. Göttlinger (Getlinger) Maksimiljan (Maksimilian), his wife Leotyna (nèe: Spitzman), their adopted son named- Adam and their son-in-law, Dr. Herzig Alfred. Oczyński Jan and his son- Mieczysław, shared there home with the four fugitives and took care of all their needs. Despite the danger to their lives, they continued to do so, motivated by purely humane values, never asking for or receiving anything in return.
After the war, the survivors immigrated to Brazil, while Oczyński and his son, moved to an area within the new borders of Poland.
On the 27th of September 1983, Yad Vashem recognized Oczyński Jan and his son Oczyński Mieczysław, as Righteous Among the Nations.
