Kamiński Zbigniew & Adamczewska Franciszka

Righteous
Kamiński, Zbigniew Kamińska-Adamczewska, Franciszka In 1942, when the Germans began liquidating the Jews in the Przemysl ghetto in the Rzeszow district, the Histers turned to Zbigniew Kamiński, their friend, who lived with his wife, Franciszka, in the city center. Kamiński, eager to help the Histers and their friend, Goldman, arranged a hiding place for them in the grandmother’s apartment where he and his wife looked after them. When the hiding place turned out to be unsafe, the refugees decided to return to the ghetto. After the second Aktion in the ghetto, they again turned to Kamiński. This time, Kamiński rented a house for them in the suburbs, where, under cover of night, he dug them an underground hiding place, behind the bathroom. The entrance to the hiding place was concealed by a rabbit cage, which not only served as a useful decoy, but also helped explain the large quantity of food entering the premises. The Histers and Goldman were subsequently joined by Anda Penner and Natan Feit. The Kamińskis also took in Hela Finkelstein, the four members of the Schattner family, Dora Hoffner and Sara Sternberg, among others, even though Franciszka had just given birth. The Kamińskis looked after all the refugees until the area was liberated in July 1944. In his subsequent testimony, Hister pointed out that Kamińska washed their clothes “brought us water, worked in the garden, cooked and was a compassionate sister and mother.” After the war, the survivors immigrated to Israel, Canada, the United States, Argentina and France. On December 21, 1982, Yad Vashem recognized Franciszka Kamińska-Adamczewska and Zbigniew Kamiński as Righteous Among the Nations.
