Rozeman Steven ; Daughter: Geesje

Righteous
Rozeman, Steven & Geesje During the war, Steven and his daughter Geesje Rozeman saved Jews from persecution in Nieuwlande, Drenthe. This information is based on the testimony of Arnold Douwes*, the initiator and indefatigable organizer of the project for hiding Jews in the area, and Nico (Max Léons), a young Jew from Voorburg, South Holland, who was his faithful assistant. Between 1943 and 1945, Douwes kept a diary in which he mentioned Steven and Geesje among the people who helped to hide Jews. Steven’s son, Albert Jan Rozeman*, who was also very active in the Resistance, ran most of his underground activities from Steven’s home. On March 20, 1944, both men were arrested. Albert Jan was executed by the Germans soon after and Steven was deported to the Heinkel concentration camp, where he perished in January 1945. On June 9, 1983, Yad Vashem recognized Steven Rozeman and his daughter, Geesje Rozeman, as Righteous Among the Nations.
