Radics József & Margit (Preiczer); Son: József

Righteous
Radics, József Radics, Mrs. József Radics, József Radics, József, Jr. József Radics and his wife lived on Várna Street in Budapest, together with their young son, who was also named József. The Radicses also owned a house on Mogyoródi Street in the city’s green 14th district. The Radicses were acquaintances of the Adlers, a Jewish family of five. During the Arrow Cross period, when the Adler family was going to be deported to the German Reich, they asked József Radics and his wife for help. The Radicses allowed the Adler family, together with another man, Tibor Barát, to use their home on Mogyoródi Street as a hiding place until the liberation in January 1945. The Radics family supported the Adlers during the entire time they were in hiding, providing them with food, warm clothing, medicine, wood for heating and anything else that they needed. The couple’s son, József Jr. – later Dr. József Radics, a resident of Basel – took responsibility for delivering these supplies. He dragged these items on a sled over the long distance between his family’s apartment and the Jews’ hiding place, through the snow-covered streets of the besieged capital. The Radicses and their young son risked their lives to save Jewish souls. They did this during the last months of the war, a period marked by house-to-house battles. The family was aware of laws ordering that anyone discovered to be hiding Jews would be shot on sight. Still, remaining true to their principles, the Radics offered refuge to Jews in need. On January 9, 1994, Yad Vashem recognized József Radics Junior and on December 12, 2000, József Radics with wife Mrs. József Radics as Righteous Among the Nations.
