Takáč, Emanuel
Takáčová, Olga
During the deportations of 1942, Erika Kardošová (later Jesenská) found refuge with her mother, Ružena, and her aunt, Ettela Rosenfeld, in the home of Emanuel and Olga Takáč in Prešov. They stayed there for a total of seven months. As a teacher, Emanuel could acquire food for the wards and for his family in the village where he worked. His wife, Olga, stayed at home and dedicated herself to the upbringing of their seven children and to the well-being of the hidden Jews. The Takáčes made room for their wards in their small, modest apartment. One of the Takáč sons, Mikuláš, aged 16 at that time and later a professor of medicine, liaised between the hidden people and their relatives that were in hiding in a priest’s yard in Sabinov. After the war, Erika, along with the Takáč’s son, petitioned for the recognition of Emanuel and Olga by Yad Vashem.
On June 2, 1993, Yad Vashem recognized Emanuel Takáč and Olga Takáčová as Righteous Among the Nations.
