During the war, Władysław and Władysława Świętochowski lived in Warsaw. Władysław worked as a fireman at the Warsaw Electric Company and during the fighting in the ghetto he was assigned to secure the high voltage line crossing the ghetto. Taking advantage of his uniform, Władysław entered the area of the ghetto and helped to lead people out to the Aryan side. He soon became a liaison between the Jewish partisans of the unit named after Anielewicz (in the Wyszkow forest) and underground organizations in Warsaw.
During the period of January to August of 1944, the Warsaw apartment of the Świętochowskis became the shelter for six Jewish partisans - Baruch Szpigel, Halina Bełchatowska (Chaika Szpigel), Jakub Putermilch, Masza Glajtman (later Putermilch), Malwina Grosbard, and Bronsiława Grosbard.
“They were kind enough to us and we felt safe with them,” wrote Jakub Putermilch.
On November 26, 1968, Yad Vashem recognized Władysław Świętochowski and his wife, Władysława Świętochowska, as Righteous Among the Nations.
