File 3991 Siara, Karol Siara, Agnieszka Before the occupation, Karol and Agnieszka Siara, humble peasants who lived on a small farm in the village of Maćkowiec, near Przemyśl in the Rzeszów district, had business ties with Yitzchak (Izak) and Fryda Frenkel from Przemyśl. When the Germans began exterminating the local Jews, the Frenkels turned to the Siaras for shelter. Although the Siaras had a little boy of their own, they agreed to shelter the Frenkels in their one-roomed home, and shared with them their meager fare. The Siaras also helped save another Jew called Chwast. In her subsequent account of how the Siaras saved her life, Fryda Frenkel wrote: “If we survived, it was thanks to the Siaras who hid us in their little apartment without expecting anything in return.” After the war, the Frenkels immigrated to the United States. On February 9, 1989, Yad Vashem recognized Agnieszka and Karol Siara as Righteous Among the Nations.
