Dudar, Antoni
Dudar, Wiktoria
Szuber-Dudar, Stanisława
In April 1943, during the liquidation of the Zbaraż ghetto in the Tarnopol district in eastern Galicia, Mosze and Erna Szwadron managed to escape to the forest where Antoni Dudar, their former neighbor from the nearby village of Dobrowody, provided them with food. Dudar also helped other neighbors of his who were hiding in the forest – including Szwadron’s sisters, Beila Rozenberg and Maria Flajszman. In due course, Dudar, with the help of his wife, Wiktoria, and their daughter, Stanisława, took the Szwadrons home, after first digging an underground shelter for them in their farmyard. Despite the danger, the Dudars saw to all the refugees’ needs, without expecting anything in return, until the Red Army liberated the area in March 1944. In saving the lives of their Jewish neighbors, the Dudars were inspired by humanitarian considerations and a sense of loyalty and moral obligation toward their former neighbors.
On October 22, 1987, Yad Vashem recognized Antoni Dudar, his wife, Wiktoria Dudar and their daughter, Stanisława Szuber-Dudar, as Righteous Among the Nations.
