Rescuer Vitaly Morozovsky, 1940
Morozovskiy, Vitaliy Morozovskiy, Aleksandra Vitaliy and Alexksandra Morozovskiy lived in the village of Mokra near Rybnitsa, in the Moldavian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic in Ukraine, which from 1940, was in the Moldavian SSR (today Moldova), and worked as teachers in the local school. Before the war, one of their pupils was Grigoriy Farber, a Jewish boy who lived with his parents in the nearby Jewish kolkhoz, Der Shtern. In September 1941, the area was include in Transnistria under Romanian control. In December 1941, Farber appeared at the Morozovskiy home and asked for shelter. During the occupation of the area, Farber had been studying in Ukraine, but his concern about the fate of his family led him to return to his birthplace. When he arrived, he found the kolkhoz empty of its inhabitants, and he learned from Morozovskiy that his mother and sister had managed to flee eastward and his father had been conscripted into the Red Army. Since many in the village of Mokra knew Farber, the Morozovskiys hid him in the attic of their home and for two months provided him with all his basic needs. In February 1942, Farber left his rescuers and went to live with friends in the town of Kotovsk, in the Odessa district (since 1940). The Morozovskiys kept in touch with him, sent him food and did their best to raise his spirits. Later, Farber applied to the authorities to obtain a new identity card and used the name Morozovskiy for the first time. After the war, Farber, with his parents’ consent, kept the surname Morozovskiy, and it was under this name that he served in the Red Army, worked for many years and then immigrated to Israel, in the 1990s. His children and grandchildren, who came to Israel together with him, still bear the name of the family that helped their father when his life was in danger. On July 7, 1996, Yad Vashem recognized Vitaliy and Aleksandra Morozovskiy as Righteous Among the Nations.
