Kreddig, Anny Kreddig, Walter Anny Kreddig (née Lobback) was born in 1917 in Preilack near Cottbus. She and her husband owned a drugstore in Berlin-Schöneberg. For more than four years following the November pogrom of 1938, they provided shelter in their cellar to their former Jewish supplier and business partner, Horst Wienskowski. They also supported him and other members of his family, at their own expense, with food and ration cards. When, in February 1943, the Gestapo arrested Wienskowski and deported him to Auschwitz, they regularly sent him fully addressed food packages, thus putting themselves at great risk. The Kreddigs were both devout Christians and staunch opponents of the racist ideology of the Nazi regime. Wienskowski-Winston, who survived Auschwitz, immigrated two years later to the United States, from where he initiated the proceedings for recognition by Yad Vashem. On September 17, 1984, Yad Vashem recognized Anny and Walter Kreddig as Righteous Among the Nations.
