Werstler Antoni

Righteous
WERSTLER, ANTONI Antoni Werstler lived in the village of Pytkow, near Stanislawow, Eastern Galicia. In the spring of 1943, Dr. Samuel Frizel, his wife Ida, and his mother Fania Kanter approached him and asked for shelter. They had received his address from a friend after escaping from the ghetto in Stanislawow. The three of them found refuge with Antoni for eighteen months, until the liberation in 1944. Werstler was, “guided solely by humanitarian feelings. He helped many other Jews by obtaining food and arms for them, even though he did not previously know them,” wrote Ida (later Abusz), who later immigrated to Israel. On April 29, 1969, Yad Vashem recognized Antoni Werstler as Righteous Among the Nations.
