Voerman, Jan & Hetty (Mansholt) During the course of the war, Miriam van Praagh moved from shelter to shelter. After being forced to leave the van der Kooy* farm and the home of Ada Mansholt* she arrived at the Voerman home in Blaricum, North Holland. The Voermans gave Miriam shelter and in doing so risked their lives to save her. Jan and Hetty Voerman were the sister and brother-in-law of Ada Mansholt. While staying with the Voermans, Miriam helped Hetty with the children, who were ill with children’s diseases. She also was able to go out walking. The children were told that Miriam was a student hiding from the Germans. After awhile, Miriam was forced to find a new hiding place. On May 28, 1978, Yad Vashem recognized Jan Voerman and his wife, Hetty Voerman–Mansholt as Righteous Among the Nations.
