Jasińska Regina (Malińska)

Righteous
Maliński Jan Malińska Anna Rutkowska-Malińska Helena Tańska-Malińska Regina In the summer of 1942, Miriam Carson, her sister, Dina Abkowicz, and Dina’s four-year-old daughter, Nechama, fled from the Warsaw ghetto, and began wandering through the surrounding villages. Thanks to the “Aryan” documents they had obtained while still in the ghetto, they were able to pose as homeless Poles, living off casual labor. In the summer of 1943, after arriving in the village of Gajówka, in the county of Węgrów, Warsaw district, the three Jewish refugees knocked on the door of their friends, Jan and Anna Maliński, poor farmers who lived in a small cottage with their ten children, asking for shelter. At first, the Malińskis refused, but later, at the urgings of their two daughters, Helena and Regina, they took them in, and passed them off as relatives of theirs. While Miriam and Dina smuggled food out of the village to Warsaw, Helena and Regina looked after little Nechama devotedly, and taught her Christian prayers and rites. Twice during their stay, the Germans raided the village looking for Jews. When the village mayor threatened collective punishment if anyone was caught harboring Jews, Miriam and Dina left their shelter and found a new hiding place in the nearby town of Siedlce, where they hid until July 1944, when the area was liberated by the Red Army. Despite the danger, the Malińskis kept little Nechama, whom Helena and Regina looked after devotedly, until the area was liberated, without expecting anything in return. After the war, Nechama was returned to her mother, and the two immigrated to Israel, while Miriam immigrated to the United States. On February 10, 1997, Yad Vashem recognized Anna Malińska , her husband Jan Maliński and their daughter, Helena Rutkowska-Malińska, as Righteous Among the Nations. On February 17, 1999, Yad Vashem recognized Regina Tańska-Malińska as Righteous Among the Nations. File 7481
