Szwarc Jadwiga (Hecht)

Righteous
SZWARC-HECHT, JADWIGA During the war, Jadwiga Szwarc (nee Hecht) lived with her family in Janow, Eastern Galicia. In 1943, she gave her birth certificate and baptism papers to a prewar friend of hers, Regina Farb (later Matte-Blank). With these documents, Regina was taken to work in Germany, where she survived. Upon her departure to Germany, Jadwiga maintained contact with Regina’s parents, who stayed in the ghetto. She did her best to help them and update them about Regina’s life in Germany. After the war, Regina settled in the United States while Jadwiga repatriated to Poland. Forty years later, after leaving Janow, Regina succeeded in finding Jadwiga and they were able to renew their ties. On June 19, 1989, Yad Vashem recognized Jadwiga Szwarc-Hecht as Righteous Among the Nations.
