Maria and George Prow
Prow, Maria (née Sulikowska) In the autumn of 1942, during the deportation of the Jews of Otynia, in Eastern Galicia, Isaac Prowizor fled with his younger brother Henryk to a nearby forest. The two brothers settled down in an abandoned brick factory and hid there for about two months. At night, they would sneak out and search for food in vegetable patches and farmyards. One night, Isaac Prowizor entered the home of Maria Sulikowska to ask her for some food. Prowizor had known Sulikowska from the past, when she had rented a room from his family before the Germans occupied the area. During the occupation, Sulikowska lived with her young daughter from her first marriage in the home of a Ukrainian. Sulikowska received Prowizer warmly, provided him with food and invited him to come to her home together with his brother at night to have a hot meal. For two months, the two Jewish brothers visited Sulikowska’s home from time to time, until they were handed over to the Germans by a neighbor that saw them hiding in the brick factory. On the way to the Belzec death camp, Isaac Prowizor escaped from the transport, and after considerable wandering, returned to Otynia, going straight to Sulikowska’s home. She hid him in her home, and eventually let her brother in on the secret, as well. After the brother warned Prowizor of the danger to his sister’s life if he were discovered hiding in her home, Prowizor hid for a while with neighbors, although his home base remained Sulikowska’s home. In late 1943, he returned to hide in Sulikowska’s home and remained with her until the liberation in July 1944. After the war, Prowizor (later Prow) married Maria Sulikowska and they immigrated to Britain. On February 16, 1982, Yad Vashem recognized Maria Prow (née Sulikowska) as Righteous Among the Nations.
