Młodnicki Tadeusz

Righteous
Młodnicki, Tadeusz In July 1942, seven Jews escaped from the camp on Janowska Street in Lwow, and in the dark of night somehow arrived in the town of Mikolajow, in the Bobrka county, in the Lwow district. One of the fugitives was Mordechai Saurhaft, who knocked on the door of Tadeusz Młodnicki, a past acquaintance. Despite his wife’s opposition, Młodnicki, a poor day laborer, let all seven fugitives into his home, and together they built a shelter under the floor. Motivated by pure altruism and without asking for or receiving anything in return, and despite the hostile environment of his Ukrainian neighbors and the danger to his wife and children, Młodnicki took the Jewish fugitives under his wing, sharing the little food he had with them and cheering up their spirits. One day, his terrified wife fled from the house and with their children moved in with her parents in the neighboring village. Unmoved, Młodnicki stood by his decision to save the Jews he had taken in, and all seven fugitives remained in the hiding place in his home until liberation of the area by the Red Army in July 1944. After the war, most of them immigrated to the United States. On June 28, 1978, Yad Vashem recognized Tadeusz Młodnicki as Righteous Among the Nations.
