The plaque of the Tree in Honor of Ada Mansholt. Yad Vashem
Mansholt, Aleida Theda
With the help of her non-Jewish aunt, Annie van Praagh-Labordus*, from Oosterbeek, Gelderland, Miriam van Praagh (later Bezek) went into hiding with schoolteacher Aleida (Ada) Mansholt. Miriam was alone during the day when Ada taught, but at night, the two would often go out for a walk together. When Miriam had to flee to avoid a house search, Ada found a place for her with Jan Voerman* and his family in Blaricum, North Holland. Ada helped Miriam for humanitarian reasons and never asked for any compensation. When Miriam was caught while hiding at another address, Ada pleaded with the Germans for her release at considerable personal risk.
On May 28, 1978, Yad Vashem recognized Aleida Theda Mansholt as Righteous Among the Nations.
