Łogiński Jerzy While interned in the Rawa Ruska ghetto, in the Lwów district, Berisch Steinfeld struck up a friendship with Jerzy Łogiński, an old acquaintance of his. Łogiński agreed to shelter Steinfeld and his family once they had succeeded in escaping from the ghetto. Shortly there after, Steinfeld, his wife Lola, his brother-in-law, Don Berger and his wife, Fajga, and Matylda Kleiner, a relative, turned up on Łogiński’s doorstep. Without any preconditions, Łogiński took in the five Jewish refugees and, guided by humanitarian considerations only, arranged a hiding place for them in his attic where, despite the danger, he looked after them devotedly and saw to all their needs. The danger was rendered even more acute by the fact that Łogiński ran a restaurant on the ground floor of his house that was frequented by many Germans and Ukrainians. Shortly before the liquidation of the ghetto, Łogiński entered the ghetto and smuggled out the Steinfelds’ one-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Brajndla. Since the hiding place was not suitable for a baby, Łogiński took her to an acquaintance that lived in a nearby village, telling her that the baby was his mistress’s illegitimate child. The acquaintance agreed to adopt the girl, provided Łoginski paid for her upkeep. The five refugees stayed in their hiding place until July 1944, when the area was liberated by the Red Army. Little Brajndla was liberated with them and returned to her parents. After the war, all the survivors left Poland and for many years, supported their saviors, who moved to an area within Poland’s new borders, enabling them to grow old with dignity. On May 25, 1988, Yad Vashem recognized Jerzy Łogiński as Righteous Among the Nations.
