Leider Zofia (Frankowicz)

Frankowicz-Leider, Zofia In the summer of 1941, immediately after the Germans occupied the town of Radziechów, in the Tarnopol district, Ichak Leider and his brother, Dawid, found a hiding place in the apartment of 25-year-old Zofia Frankowicz, a close acquaintance of theirs. Guided by a true friendship, which triumphed over adversity, Frankowicz saw to all their needs, without expecting anything in return. Four other Jews from the same family, Róża and Jakub Leider, Józef Bari, (Róża’s brother) and Szaindl Leider, (Jakub’s mother) found shelter with a Polish family who lived on the outskirts of the city. In March 1944, about a month before the liberation, German soldiers occupied one wing of the house where they were hiding, and the refugees were forced to leave. Having nowhere to go, they turned to Frankowicz, who hid them together with the two brothers who had already been with her for almost two years. The six members of the Leider family stayed with Frankowicz until April 1944, when the Red Army liberated the area. After the war, David Leider married Frankowicz, and the two resettled in Paraguay, while the four other members of the Leider family immigrated to Israel. On October 15, 1998, Yad Vashem recognized Zofia Leider (née Frankowicz) as Righteous Among the Nations. File 8002
