During the liquidation of the Kopyczynce ghetto in the Tarnopol district, the four members of the Altschiler family escaped. After their son was murdered, Moshe, his wife, Liza, and their remaining son Dov, made their way with the utmost difficulty to the village of Czabarowka, where they knocked on the door of Franciszek Hołubowicz, the village headmaster. Although the Hołubowiczes were poor, all four of them agreed to shelter the Altschilers in a hiding place they prepared for them on their farm. In saving the Altschilers, who were complete strangers to them, the Hołubowiczes were guided by humanitarian principles, which overrode considerations of personal safety or economic hardship. Fearing the vengeance of their Ukrainian neighbors, even after the war, the Hołubowiczes kept their rescue operation secret. After the war, the Altschilers immigrated to Israel where they kept up a correspondence with the Hołubowiczes, who moved to an area within the new Polish borders.
On August 1, 1993, Yad Vashem recognized Helena and Franciszek Hołubowicz, and their sons, Zbigniew-Aleksander and Kazimierz-Wiesław, as Righteous Among the Nations.
