Golentyuk, Anna Shcherba, Mikhail Shcherba, Yefrosinya Anna Golentyuk lived in a khutor near the village of Gorodok, in the district of Łuck, Wołyń (today Horodok, Volyn’ District). Her husband was away serving on the front with the Red Army. Her brother, Mikhail Shcherba, and his wife, Yefrosinya, lived in the same khutor. In early 1942, Golentyuk learned that Lazar Burshtein, a Jewish cobbler from nearby Łuck (Luts’k), and his family, were being hidden in the village with various farmers in return for making shoes for them. One day, Golentyuk approached her neighbor, where the cobbler and his family were staying at the time, and offered to hide his daughters, Riva and 14-year-old Miriam, in her home. That day, Miriam moved into Golentyuk’s home and her little sister was taken to the Shcherbas. Golentyuk and the Shcherbas both constructed hiding places in their barns and Golentyuk occasionally took Miriam to visit her sister. On October 1, 1942, a group of Germans and Ukrainian policemen arrived at the village to carry out a thorough search, in which the cobbler, his wife, and their son were found and killed. The villagers who had assisted this Jewish family and other Jews were executed, among them Mikhail Shcherba. Subsequently, Miriam and Riva Burshtein fled the village and wandered among the nearby villages until the liberation. They later moved to Poland and then immigrated to Israel, but kept in touch with their rescuers. On February 22, 1995, Yad Vashem recognized Anna Golentyuk, and Mikhail and Yefrosinya Shcherba, as Righteous Among the Nations.
