Glaveckas, Juozas
Glaveckienė, Anelė
On the eve of the war, Anelė Glaveckienė lived in Kaunas with her husband, Juozas. Their three children had died in infancy. In 1943, one of Glaveckienė’s Jewish friends asked her to give shelter to Rina Gil, who was born in the ghetto, in February 1942. In the Glaveckases’ home, the Jewish baby was given devoted, loving care, and since their neighbors often had German guests, Anelė and Juozas moved to a nearby village to raise Rina in relative safety. After Rina’s mother perished in the ghetto, the Glaveckases were like her true parents. After the war, when Rina’s father, who had been a soldier, came to take his daughter, the child implored her father to allow her to return to live with the Glaveckases, whom she thought of as her parents. In the 1980s, Rina Gil (by then Glaz) moved to the USA.
On December 16, 1998, Yad Vashem recognized Anelė Glaveckienė as Righteous Among the Nations.
On December 23, 2004, Yad Vashem recognized Juozas Glaveckas as Righteous Among the Nations.
