Florescu, Constanţa
Constanţa Florescu lived in Bucharest with her husband who, during the war, served in the Romanian army. She gave shelter in her home to Roza Hendler, whom she had met before the war, and cared for her devotedly from 1941-1944. When Hendler fell ill, early in 1944, Florescu looked after her like a faithful daughter, until Hendler died later that year. Hendler’s son, Moshe, in his early 20s, also stayed in Florescu’s home from time to time, when he returned to the city from his wanderings among the villages in search of work. Throughout this period, Florescu had to be very careful to keep her act of rescue secret from her father, who visited on occasion and was known for his hatred of Jews. After the war, Moshe Hendler helped Florescu by sending her money and parcels.
On November 15, 1989, Yad Vashem recognized Constanţa Florescu as Righteous Among the Nations.
