Dzierżykray-Rogalski, Tadeusz Before the war, Zofia Rosen, a teacher in a vocational school in Warsaw, and Tadeusz Dzierżykray-Rogalski, a medical student, were neighbors. Even after all her Jewish neighbors were evicted, Rosen secluded herself in her apartment, convinced that the war was nearly over. The only people who knew of her existence were the janitor of the building, who happened to be a member of the underground, and her neighbor, Dzierżykray-Rogalski, who saw to all her needs, without expecting anything in return. Rosen lived in continuous fear, avoided putting on the light or making the slightest noise, and opened the door only to her neighbor who brought her food and looked after her when she fell ill. When the building was destroyed in the Warsaw Uprising in August 1944, Rosen left Warsaw with the other citizens of Warsaw, and in January 1945, was liberated by the Red Army. Daniel Hildebrandt was another Jew who owed his life to Dzierżykray-Rogalski. In 1944, after the Warsaw Uprising, Hildebrandt met Dzierżykray-Rogalski Zalesie, not far from Warsaw. When Hildebrandt told Dzierzykray-Rogalski that he had no permanent hiding place, Dzierżykray-Rogalski invited him to stay the night. Hildebrandt ended up staying for several days, after which Dzierżykray-Rogalski took him to his mother’s house in nearby Milanowek, where he remained until the area was liberated by the Red Army. Rosen died shortly after the war while Hildebrandt immigrated to the United States, where he kept up contact with his rescuer. On December 14, 1994, Yad Vashem recognized Professor Tadeusz Dzierżykray-Rogalski as a Righteous Among the Nations. File No. 6142
