Domińska, Wanda
In early 1943, Szarlota Goldstein fled from the Warsaw ghetto and, under an assumed identity, rented a room with Wanda Domińska. During the next five months, Domińska looked after her bedridden tenant devotedly and nursed her back to health. The two used to have lengthy conversations, in the course of which Goldstein was encouraged by Domińska’s warmth and humanity to reveal her true identity. From that moment on, Domińska could not do enough for Goldstein, whom she treated as her own daughter, showering her with love and affection. Goldstein stayed with Domińska until the area was liberated by the Red Army, and even after her immigration to Israel in 1947, kept up contact with her rescuer. After Goldstein died in 1970, her sister Nechama, who also lived in Israel, kept up contact with Domińska.
On December 23, 1982, Yad Vashem recognized Wanda Domińska as Righteous Among the Nations.
