Doleżal, Eugeniusz
In 1935, Doleżal Eugeniusz, a typesetter from Warsaw, became acquainted with Falk Harry; a Jew, who’s brother- Falk Artur was a rains factory owner: called “Zwój” (a factory that manufactured metal spare parts for trains). Although the factory was situated inside the Warsaw ghetto, the Germans let it continue to operate, and provided its Polish workers with entry passes to the ghetto. After Falk arranged for his friend, Doleżal, to work as a locksmith in the factory; Doleżal exploited his position to smuggle food and other commodities into the ghetto for the Falks (Falk Harry, his brothers- Falk Artur and Falk Max, Max’s wife- Anna, their daughter and Anna’s mother). In early 1943, Doleżal began to plan Herry’s escape from the ghetto. After providing him with a forged identity document, on the name of Falkowski Henryk, Doleżal smuggled Falk out of the ghetto and offered him temporary shelter in his home. When the danger of discovery intensified, Falk, with Doleżal’s advice, reported as a Pole for work in Germany; where he remained until the American Army liberated him. Furtheremore, Doleżal continued smuggling food into the ghetto for other Jews, and obtained forged (an “Aryan”) documents for Feller (later known by his forged family name as- Siekierski) Mieczysław [an engineer who owned a leather factory on 58 Żelazna Street (in Warsaw)], which enabled him to escape from the ghetto during the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in April 1943. Feller also stayed with Doleżal for a short period, until Feller decided to hide in the village of Wygoda (near Warsaw); whereas Doleżal was providing him with food till the liberation. Feller Mieczysław remained there (in the village of Wygoda) until the Red Army liberated the area.
In risking his life to save Jews, Doleżal was guided by humanitarian motives, which overrode considerations of personal safety or economic hardship.
On the 22nd of October 1981, Yad Vashem recognizedDoleżal Eugeniusz, as a Righteous Among the Nations.
