Dobosz-Królikowski Zygmunt, Bernard In 1943, Zygmunt Dobosz-Królikowski helped Józef and Leokadia Schmidt escape from the Warsaw ghetto, found them shelter on the Aryan side of the city, supplied them with food, and saw to all their needs. When the Polish police, alerted by informers, arrested Schmidt, Dobosz-Królikowski borrowed money to bribe the police to release Schmidt. With the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising in August 1944, Dobosz-Królikowski transferred the Schmidts to the nearby town of Żyrardów, where they were able to visit their little son who had been placed in a Christian orphanage under an assumed identity. In risking his life to save the Schmidts, Dobosz-Królikowski was guided by humanitarian considerations and a deep religious faith. The Schmidts were liberated by the Red Army in January 1945, and left Poland after the war. On June 4, 1989, Yad Vashem recognized Zygmunt-Bernard Dobosz-Królikowski as Righteous Among the Nations.
